Creating Moments of Hope
FIRST-MISSIONS creates opportunities to bring people together through meaningful projects, special missions, and acts of kindness that remind people they are not alone.
The ideas don’t come from a boardroom. They come from our members.
Many of our favorite missions started with a simple conversation, a member suggestion, or someone asking: “What if we did this?”
From inside the walls to outside the fences, our members help inspire the projects, traditions, and missions that make FIRST-Network unique.
We believe the people living this journey every day are often the ones with the best ideas for making it better.

Operation Secret Santa
Giving the gift of “Mail Call” through surprise holiday letters filled with encouragement, laughter, and hope.
Learn More ▾Operation Secret Santa is one of FIRST-Network’s favorite holiday traditions. Each year, members come together to give the gift of “Mail Call” by sending surprise Christmas letters to loved ones inside — each filled with holiday cheer, encouragement, laughter, and a reminder that someone is thinking about them.
For many, hearing their name called for mail is incredibly meaningful. It brings a smile, lifts spirits, and creates a moment of connection. Some have never received a letter; others have little or no contact with the outside world.
From donating supplies and postage to handwriting envelopes, organizing mailings, and spreading holiday cheer, volunteers work together to make the mission possible.
The greatest gift isn’t what’s inside the envelope. It’s knowing someone remembered you.

Operation Cupid’s Glow
Celebrating connection, appreciation, and the people who help us through difficult seasons.
Learn More ▾Operation Cupid’s Glow is a Valentine’s Day mission designed to celebrate love, connection, and the people who help us through life’s most difficult seasons. Members sponsor hearts, submit messages, and share words of encouragement featured in a special “Love & Care” project created for loved ones inside.
But the mission doesn’t stop there. One of the most meaningful parts is “Cupid’s Kite” — a surprise project where individuals inside have the opportunity to send heartfelt messages back to the people supporting them on the outside.
Through messages of appreciation, encouragement, and love, Operation Cupid’s Glow helps strengthen relationships, lift spirits, and create meaningful moments for everyone involved.
Everyone deserves to feel remembered, appreciated, and loved. Love travels both directions.

Human Sunshine Award
Recognizing members who bring kindness, positivity, encouragement, and support to others.
Learn More ▾The Human Sunshine Award is one of FIRST-Network’s favorite traditions — we intentionally recognize good people. Members nominate fellow members who bring kindness, encouragement, positivity, and support to others throughout the community.
These are the people who offer a listening ear, share resources, answer questions, lift others up, and quietly make a difference behind the scenes. Nominations are submitted throughout the month, and winners are selected during a live drawing and recognized for their impact.
Each recipient receives a special Sunshine Award plaque as a small token of appreciation for the light they bring to others.
Our members ARE our network.

Bunkie Buddies
Connecting members through mentorship, friendship, support, and shared experiences.
Learn More ▾Bunkie Buddies was created to help members connect, learn, and support one another throughout the federal prison journey. Inspired by the “bunkie” relationships many experience inside, it pairs newer members with those who have been around longer and are willing to share their knowledge, experiences, and encouragement.
Whether it’s understanding BOP terminology, finding resources, navigating facility information, or simply having someone to talk to, Bunkie Buddies helps make a difficult journey feel a little less overwhelming.
What started as a simple mentorship idea quickly turned into friendships, group chats, team challenges, creative competitions, inside jokes, and plenty of laughs — from Bunk Battles and commissary cook-off challenges to “kite passing,” room monitors, and Bunk-N-Bite Café menus.
No one should have to navigate this journey alone.

#BeTheirVoice Calendar Project
Giving voices a place on every page through quotes, artwork, and personal reflections.
Learn More ▾The #BeTheirVoice Calendar Project showcases the wisdom, experiences, and personal reflections of incarcerated loved ones through a year-long publication developed by the FIRST-Network community.
Participants inside submitted personal quotes, words of wisdom, life lessons, and motivational messages. Members then voted, narrowing the selections to twelve featured quotes — one for each month. Each winning quote was paired with custom artwork that brought the words to life.
The finished calendars became more than a way to track dates — they became keepsakes families could share, display, and treasure. Loved ones inside received copies, while family members and supporters kept a piece of them close every day.
Every voice has a story worth sharing.

Learn More ▾The federal prison journey can be stressful, overwhelming, and emotionally exhausting. That’s why we believe there should also be room for laughter, friendship, encouragement, and fun.
Throughout the year, FIRST-Network hosts community challenges, holiday activities, giveaways, contests, recognition programs, and special events designed to bring people together. Many are created by members, supported by volunteers, and made possible through community donations.
A little fun can go a long way.
Real Missions. Real People. Real Impact.
Some of our favorite memories weren’t planned — they happened in the middle of a mission, a volunteer project, a holiday event, or a simple act of kindness. Every picture tells a story.

The Human Side of the Journey
The federal prison journey impacts more than the person serving the sentence — it affects spouses, parents, children, grandparents, friends, and entire support systems. The challenges can feel overwhelming, the separation isolating. That’s why missions matter.
These moments may seem small, but they often make the biggest difference. FIRST-MISSIONS exists to create opportunities for connection, encouragement, recognition, and hope — helping people feel seen, supported, and remembered during some of life’s most difficult seasons.
No one should have to walk this journey alone.
